About Boulder Bounty
Inspiration
If you’ve been climbing for more than 10 years, odds are you remember the time period prior to Adidas purchasing 5.10.
In the moment, this seemed like a great boon for the crushers of the time: suddenly everybody was getting swagged out in apparel. But T-shirts and athleisure don’t combine to meet your daily caloric requirements; they don’t pay your mortgage, or shell out for rent money. Professional climbers deserve to earn a living wage, and odds are pitching in here can do more for pros than they can get for representing a brand, because 90+% of your contributions go directly into climber pockets.
Put in other terms: for less than the price of a yearly streaming membership, you could be incentivizing pros — and climbers looking to become pros — to climb real rock and give it their all.
Our Philosophy
We believe that all climbers deserve the chance to earn more money, with no strings attached. We also believe that if there’s any question of motivation, how a climber chooses to redeem their bounty is ultimately in their hands (no pun intended).
They can choose to have us donate the money to charity, for example; they can also leave the bounty unclaimed. But we think commerce and art can coexist in this space; we don’t think there’s anything wrong with somebody being paid for working hard. And we think it’s unfair that women earn cents on the dollar for doing the same (and in many cases, let’s be real, more) work than their male counterparts, which is why we’re happy to offer Female First Ascent (FFA-only) bounties as well.
Are Bounties Bouldering Only?
No, they’re not! Feel free to contribute towards Ondra’s — or some other lucky climber’s — second ascent on B.I.G., for instance.
Who We Are
We are climbers passionate about the power of crowdfunding to help support the athletes that motivate & inspire us. We’re dedicated to posting bounties, ourselves, and giving back to the community at large.
